Vintage Styled Wedding Fun

These "old girls" have worked hard, played hard, been soaked, gently bathed and hung out to dry....as have I, in the post wedding days. By all accounts my beautiful friends' vintage styled wedding was a roaring success and the hard work, sweat and tears...(or is that "beers"?) were so worth the months of planning, crafting and kilometres driven to make sure all went smoothly.  I take my hat off to those who style weddings as a profession; lucky for me the bride was well organised, knew exactly what she wanted and let her fingers do the walking.  Makes me really appreciate the ease of online shopping and sites like Pinterest that give so many fabulous ideas for that special occasion.

I took a few pics for your viewing pleasure, although, photographer I am not!! Enjoy......

Today is the Day!!

The excitement is growing in the Kitchen Kitsch house....well everyone else is asleep but I'm excited for two lovely friends are shouting it to the world that they want to live happily ever after...together. Bright and early today I'm heading up the mountain to beautiful Maleny to help set up (some would say "style" but I'm no show off) their family property for today's nuptials.  Looking outside the sun is rising, the wind we saw yesterday is now non existent and I just think today may be as fantastic as Spring ever gets.  Brisbane was certainly made for Spring. Gorgeous!

So last night I packed the car with 40 of my carefully wrapped precious teacup trios, vintage cutlery, "handcrafted" vases and candle holders, cake stands, dessert trays....blah blah blah....you name it.  I feel so blessed that Ms A wants to decorate her special day with what some see as space wasters but I see as beautiful pieces of history.  Speaking of history, I'm hoping that in between "styling" and "nuptials" my Mr D will take me for a drive to look at the farmhouse I've been lusting after and if I'm exceptionally lucky the romanticism of the day may just convince him that a family of 4 should live in a dilapidated 70 year old 2 bedroom house....just maybe....

Best wishes to a lovely couple.....Ms A and Mr D xxx ....I've got some toenails to paint!

The Sweet Life

It is my unprofessional opinion that I'm slightly obsessive compulsive when it comes to real estate.  Real Estate dot com is on my favourites list and I check it at least 5, sometimes 6 times a week to see that I don't miss the opportunity to discover my dream home.  I find the house online, move in, redecorate and live happily ever after....all in the space of a day and a half! Not that I'm in any position to move or to sell but the desire for change is always there. Truth is, I often go to open house inspections just to see how the seller has decorated......

At the moment I am obsessing over a house that, well, would definitely not be everyone's cuppa but for some reason I just can't shake it. In fact when I told Mr D that I "must have it!!" he looked to the heavens and shook his head sadly and I'm certain I saw Miss M smile sympathetically before twirling her fingers near her temples in a "coo coo, coo coo" fashion, and Miss H just screamed "I'm never living there!!".  Now don't think for a minute that I'm looking at the 10 bedroom mansion with tennis court and Olympic size pool.....not for me at all.  Anyhow, I'll present the pics and let you decide.....

This shot I have as my wallpaper on my phone...

This pic is my PC screen saver....

Think of the potential!!...I certainly have! The interior isn't much chop but never fear, I have already been on Ebay and decided on some vintage fixtures and fittings that will bring the old girl back to life.....seriously, I have......I didn't actually bid on them but put them on my Watch List just in case.
Aahhhh, I can see it now, a coop full of Bantam-Cochins......

.......a picket fenced Kitchen Garden

Oh and a rustic yet stylish fireplace.....

Don't even get me started on the plans I have for the kitchen and bathroom! We'll I'll be so happy!

More Peas!!

I love my Saturday morning trips to the markets, and finding huge piles of fresh peas never fails to bring about happy moments of nostalgia.  As well as lavender scented hugs, a fond memory I have of my beloved Grandmother, Florence, is sitting chatting with her while she shelled peas at the funky red laminex table in her kitchen.  Sheets of The Telegraph Newspaper were spread over the table and she would toss the emptied shells onto it before wrapping the whole lot up and putting it out in the back yard incinerator bin. The yield was huge and the peas were fat....unfortunately Nan would boil the buggery out of them in a pot of water with bi carb soda added to it. Why Nan, why??

How times have changed! The bi carb boiling is forgotten and the kilo or so of peas I brought home from the markets looked very promising from the outside but as I opened them things were starting to look alot like the characters from some of those reality shows that my Miss H insists on watching.....lots of skin but not much going on inside.....

Despite the disappointment of finding some of the shells sans peas, my meagre yield of about a handful proved edible and flavoursome after a gentle steaming and as I tried to wash the green stains out of my fingernails I almost considered that frozen peas could be a better option. Or perhaps my Garden of Neglect would like a new friend.....now there's an idea....

The Little Things

Bonjour mes amis, this week I have taken time to look for small blessings in the everyday ordinariness.....is that a word? If it's not, it should be.....I have compiled a list of little things that have brought a "smile to my dial" this week.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

1. Losing a kilo of winter blubber....yay!

2. Hearing birds chirping as I leave for the gym at 5.30am.....a sure sign that the days are getting longer!

3. My new kantha quilt....more of a large splurge than a small blessing....

4. Sharing in the wedding preps for two beautiful people....

5. Bubbles and Indian takeaway on a Friday night.....say no more!

6. Waking up to my three favourites every morning......no not Mr.D, Miss H and Miss M, although they do run a close second....

7. Finding a killer Pinot Grigio with a rockin' bottle! Shocker of a pic but killer of a drop....

8.  Freshly Spring cleaned floors that haven't been Spring cleaned since the last Spring clean!

9.  Listening to Hall and Oates on the MTV Classic Retro channel and not being ashamed to say it......You're Outta Touch I'm Outta Time....you know how it goes....

and 10.  My new yellow wedges teamed with fake tan..... I prefer the wedges to the fake tan!

So that's it....what little things have made you smile this week??

Garden of Neglect Update

With the glorious warm days already upon us I decided it was high time to get out of my winter hibernation (read: RUT) , paint my toenails and face the world again.  I'm not a huge fan of winter and by the time August rears its head I'm a cranky dreadful mess but knowing that September is just around the corner provides enough fuel to keep me going.

So today I thought I would check out my Garden of Neglect and she did not fail to impress.  There were pleasantries in abundance! Here they are, in no particular order.......

I grew lemons!!

I grew lettuce where I didn't even plant lettuce!.....among the weeds and a twisted wreck of  coriander.

...and then there were 3. My beautiful gerbera had babies....all by itself!

The next one didn't come from my Garden of Neglect, it came from my Saturday market visit but it is so happy I decided to include it.  A colourful bunch of Spring flowers with Spring inspired vintage cross-stitch doily....delicious!!

Enjoy the sunny Springness and the excitement of Christmas being just around the corner!

Inspiration Point

Does anyone remember way back in the '70's when Ritchie Cunningham used to take Jenny Piccolo up to Inspiration Point for a spot of "necking"?! Well this post has nothing to do with that but the pics that follow are my colour Inspiration...... for my living room makeout makeover.

I could look at these blues all day!

That sideboard!!! If only....

Who wouldn't want that faux zebra rug??

Colour madness!! I love it!

So pretty with a surprising touch of the middle east....

Pure bliss!!

I think I can safely say my "new, improved" living room will have lashings of turquoise and plenty of red, a touch of yellow and a smattering of green.  Oh and if I dare, a red zebra skin rug!  I wonder if Fonzie would approve??

Afternoon Tea? Sorted!

I love a bit of cupcake action and although I have never claimed to be Nigella, despite on occasion been mistaken for her (!), hot damn I think I come a close second; especially with these babies I whipped up for the girls' afternoon tea today.  My ever stylish friend Mrs C is a deft hand at cupcakes and she presented one of hers to Miss M last Sunday that would run rings around mine, but I have taken her advice and used a piping gizmo to do the icing and I must say, despite icing going where icing should never go, I'm chuffed with the results.  I even copied her use of little icing flowers for decoration. If only I could coax that "secret icing recipe" out of her I might finally be in with a chance.....  "Vino Mrs C??"

Off now to wash the icing out of my fringe...

xxMs.K

ps Miss M says my cupcakes were good but just not as "high" as Mrs C's......dang!!

Gettomhg tje Ba;; Rp;;omgh

....or "Getting the Ball Rolling" if you have your hands in the correct position on the keyboard.
The planning of my new living room has begun, albeit slowly, and my main area of attention at the moment is fabrics. My first port of call was to my favourite online fabric store Fabric Traders. Boy do these local gals know their stuff! Their style and taste has been a source of inspiration to me for some time now and I have been known to make the odd sneaky purchase from them as well. Remember this fabric?.......

This is one pattern I want to incorporate into the redec and I have made a mood board of sorts with a couple of other samples from their site which I'm hoping will all go nicely together in a mis-matched kind of way.  Professional decoraters please feel free to step in now!!

Here...

Always love a bit of red ticking.....

I am yet to consult "Pattern Play 101" so the exact ratios I will use the fabrics in are still to be determined.  This morning I hastily purchased a couple of metres of ticking at the Spotlight fabric sale....and I say hastily because I had both Mr D and Miss H home sick in bed with various ill-person symptoms. But at the suggestion of Miss M (as I drove her at school saying "I don't want to be at home with those 2 sickies") I went shopping!  Her other suggestion was to go have coffee with friends....smart girl!!

Please feel free to comment on the above fabrics as there really is no book called "Pattern Play 101" and I haven't got a clue!!
